    Discovering Coral Reefs

    Last updated 9 months ago

Coral reefs are beautiful structures formed underwater by skeletons of small organisms called polyps. These structures provide food and shelter to a number of creatures under the sea and have a unique, sculptural beauty.

There are three different types of coral reefs: fringing reefs form along the coastline in shallow water while barrier reefs form farther out to sea and create a barrier between a lagoon and the sea. Learn about the third type, coral atolls, and how they form around old volcanoes from the video below.

You can learn even more about coral reefs and the planet's wildlife and ecosystems at The Wildlife Experience.

Teaching Plants and Animals in the Classroom

    Last updated 10 months ago

Even though children are always observing and learning, teachers have the opportunity to expose their students to certain elements of the world in the classroom they may not have seen or known otherwise. Here are some ideas for teachers and educators to help incorporate lessons about the natural world into your own classroom.

    • Enroll in a Workshop: Many museums offer workshops designed to help teachers incorporate new educational lesson plans and strategies in their classrooms. These workshops teach themes that are appropriate and engaging for a variety of age groups. They can also provide teachers with ideas for children’s activities that involve plants and animals. By attending a similar workshop, you can develop a cohesive and effective lesson for your own students.
    • Schedule an In-Class Educational Program: You can make a lasting impact on your students by bringing in a special speaker, scientist, or museum exhibit. These in-class educational programs can be customized for different age groups for targeted learning. These experiential lessons let students learn in a hands-on way, helping them better remember and understand what they see and hear.
    • Access Online Curricula: Teachers can incorporate more lesson plans about plants and animals by accessing an online curriculum available through local museums and educational organizations. These programs are often designed for students in grades K-12, enabling teachers of all grades to teach their students about the world around them. Teachers can also feel confident about the value and quality of the lesson plans, which are created to meet requirements set by the Colorado State Education Standards.

At The Wildlife Experience, we offer all of these helpful teaching tools and more. Study animal and plant exhibits in our camps and workshops, or invite us to bring our museum to your classroom.

With some of the most unique event spaces in Denver, The Wildlife Experience provides an excellent atmosphere for charity events and functions.

    1. Space: Other venues may seem like a good fit for your event, but many don’t offer the same amount of space offered by a museum. Our Great Hall, on the other hand, offers banquet seating capacity for up to 600 people. The Wildlife Experience offers an exquisite and spacious background against which to host an evening to remember without limiting your guest list.
    2. Exciting Décor: The Wildlife Experience can help you create a truly memorable and meaningful event by helping to create an ambiance unlike any other. Guests can enjoy looking at displays and models and exploring exhibits featuring plants and animals from around the world while learning more about the organizations important to you.

Whether video, slideshow, or live performance, The Wildlife Experience can provide you  with all the necessary equipment for your presentations to help make a lasting statement.
    4. Catering: If you are hosting an evening event, you may want to include dinner as part of the night’s festivities. Whatever the theme or setting you choose, the in-house catering department of The Wildlife Experience Museum will create a menu that enhances your event and entices the taste buds. The first-class banquet staff and cuisine you will receive are synonymous with the standards of excellence for which The Wildlife Experience strives.
